The Emerald Desert RV Resort in Palm Desert, California is a beautiful oasis in the desert. Palm trees galore with a great mixture of other green trees, grass and beautiful flowers. The RV spots are concrete with full hook-ups not including paying extra for your electric use. Very typical of larger RV parks.
We arrived in Palm Desert on December 5, 2016 and stayed until January 29, 2017. The cost was OUTRAGEOUS! Typical normal winter-time rates range from $2,000 to $5,200 per month. Gulp. And then paying your electric usage on top of that. They even charge a “resort fee” for their OWN resort. Crazy. The spots are not huge and we had to be moved to fit our rig and of course, pay more even though we could NOT fit on the spot they gave us. Yes…I called before to talk to them about the size of our rig. We were not the largest rig there. There were Class A RV’s that were well over 52′ (the size of our rig opened up).
They have an “onsite RV detailing business” that is privately owned. They will NOT allow you to wash your own rig…you have to use “that” guy. Who, by the way, overcharges to do that. $40 per foot. So if we had him wash our rig, it would have been over $400. Are. You. Kidding. Me. I “assume” they make a cut on the business he does in their park. They do a great job, but $400 to wash dirt and sand off our rig was crazy high. We stayed dirty and liked it.
This park is close to everything. Palm Desert in the winter is a snowbird destination, so plan on long lines, slow and weird drivers, rates for everything being higher and some cranky people to boot.
A favorite spot for our Canadian friends many who rent a spot offsite and keep their rigs there during the summer. Remember this is the desert and Palm Desert/Palm Springs can reach over 120 degrees in the summer!
The staff at Emerald Desert were accommodating and helpful. The grounds are extremely well maintained. There is a beautiful, heated pool, exercise room, pickle ball courts, tennis courts, putting greens (with ducks and duck yuck!), laundry facility. They will accept your mail for you as you are given a mail box when you arrive – for an additional fee, of course. The lady in the mail center is very helpful. They also ask how old your rig is. They “say” nothing over 10 years old. That “rule” of theirs is not quite true as we saw older units well over the 10 year old mark.
When you get on their website, use caution because the CHAT box just will NOT go away! Drives you nuts as you are trying to peruse around their website.
This place is gorgeous, but we will not be visiting there again. The cost is ridiculous to rent a concrete pad.
